Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Capellini

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the capellini and cook according to package instructions, usually around 3-4 minutes, until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Meatball Preparation

  1. 2

    Make the Meatballs

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined.

  2. 3

    Shape the Meatballs

Form the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.

  3. 4

    Cook the Meatballs

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook for about 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally until they are browned on all sides and cooked through. Remove from skillet and set aside.

Sauce Preparation

  1. 5

    Make the Sauce

In the same skillet, add more olive oil if needed and sauté the minced garlic until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add the crushed San Marzano tomatoes, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  2. 6

    Combine

Add the cooked meatballs to the sauce and let them simmer together for another 10 minutes. Stir in the fresh basil leaves.

Assembly

  1. 7

    Combine and Serve

In a large bowl, combine the cooked capellini with the meatball sauce. Toss gently to coat. Serve with additional grated Parmesan cheese on top.
