Method
Meatballs Preparation
- 1
Mix the Meatball Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined.
- 2
Form the Meatballs
Using your hands, form the mixture into meatballs about 1 inch in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 3
Bake the Meatballs
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the meatballs for about 20 minutes or until cooked through and browned on the outside.
Tomato Sauce Preparation
- 4
- 5
Add the Tomatoes and Seasonings
Stir in the crushed San Marzano tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring to a simmer and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 6
Combine with Meatballs
Once the meatballs are baked, add them to the sauce. Let them simmer together for an additional 10 minutes to absorb the flavors.
Creamy Polenta Preparation
- 7
Cook the Polenta
In a medium saucepan, bring the water and salt to a boil. Gradually whisk in the polenta and reduce the heat to low. Cook, stirring frequently, until the polenta is thick and creamy, about 15-20 minutes.
- 8
Finish the Polenta
Remove from heat and stir in the grated pecorino cheese and butter until well combined and creamy.
Assembly
- 9
Serve the Dish
To serve, spoon a generous amount of creamy polenta onto a plate, top with the meatballs and tomato sauce, and garnish with additional pecorino cheese if desired.
