Method
Preparing the Bread
- 1
Slice the Baguette
Cut the baguette into 1/2 inch thick slices.
- 2
Toast the Bread
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange the sliced baguette on a baking sheet and brush each slice with olive oil. Toast in the oven for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
Preparing the Topping
- 3
Dice the Tomatoes
Remove the stems from the ripe tomatoes, then chop them into small, even-sized pieces.
- 4
Chop the Basil
Stack the fresh basil leaves, roll them up tightly, and slice them into thin strips (chiffonade).
- 5
Mince the Garlic
Peel the garlic cloves and mince them finely.
- 6
Combine the Topping Ingredients
In a mixing bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, chopped basil, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and let it sit for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Assembling the Bruschetta
- 7
Top the Toasts
Once the bread is toasted, remove it from the oven and let it cool slightly. Spoon the tomato mixture generously on top of each slice of toasted baguette.
- 8
Serve
Arrange the bruschetta on a serving platter and serve immediately, garnished with additional basil if desired.
