Method
Prepare the Protein
- 1
Cook Ground Beef
In a skillet over medium heat, cook 1 pound of ground beef until browned and fully cooked, about 7-10 minutes. Drain excess fat, if necessary, and season with taco seasoning according to package instructions.
- 2
Shred Chicken
If using shredded chicken, cook 1 pound of chicken breasts in boiling water or in a slow cooker until fully cooked (165°F internal temperature). Shred the chicken using two forks and mix with taco seasoning.
- 3
Prepare Black Beans
If using black beans, drain and rinse the can of black beans. Heat in a small saucepan over medium heat until warmed through, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Assemble the Tacos
- 4
Warm the Taco Shells
If using soft taco shells, warm them in a microwave or on a dry skillet for about 30 seconds on each side. For hard taco shells, bake them in the oven according to package instructions until crispy.
- 5
Fill the Tacos
Place a generous amount of your chosen protein (ground beef, shredded chicken, or black beans) into each taco shell.
- 6
Add Toppings
Top each taco with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, a dollop of sour cream, and salsa. Add avocado or guacamole, chopped cilantro, and lime wedges as desired.
