Method
Butter base
- 1
Soften and season butter
Leave the unsalted butter at room temperature until very soft and easily spreadable, about 30–45 minutes (or gently warm in 5–10 second increments in microwave).
- 2
Place the softened butter in a medium mixing bowl. Add sea salt, freshly ground black pepper and lemon zest. Use a spatula or fork to mash and fold the butter until smooth and homogenous. Taste and adjust salt/pepper to preference.
Build the board
- 3
Spread butter
Select a large wooden board or serving platter. Place the seasoned butter in the center and use an offset spatula or the back of a spoon to press and spread the butter into a roughly 10–12 inch long rectangle or abstract shape about 1/4–1/2 inch thick. Create small ridges and valleys to catch toppings.

Apply seasonings & toppings
Sprinkle everything bagel seasoning over a portion of the butter. Scatter chopped chives and microgreens across the board. Distribute capers and thin radish slices in clusters over the butter, and sprinkle crushed toasted nuts where you want crunch. If using smoked paprika or Aleppo pepper, dust lightly over a corner for a smoky/spicy note. Dollop small spoonfuls of soft goat cheese or ricotta sparingly if desired.
- 6
Gently press some of the toppings into the butter so they adhere in the ridges and valleys, but leave others loose for texture contrast and visual appeal.
Serve

If not serving immediately, cover loosely and keep at cool room temperature for up to 2 hours. For longer holding, refrigerate and bring back to room temperature before serving.
