Ingredients
Amaro Averna Cocktail
Optional (for a slightly different balance)
Amaro Averna Cocktail
1. Prepare glass
If desired, chill a rocks glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail; discard the ice water before straining.
2. Combine ingredients
In a mixing glass add 2 oz Averna Amaro, 0.75 oz sweet vermouth, 0.25 oz orange liqueur, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters. If you prefer a slightly sweeter, softer drink, add 0.25 oz simple syrup (optional).
3. Add ice and stir
Fill the mixing glass with plenty of ice (about 1 cup). Stir gently but thoroughly for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full rotations) until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted (the mixing glass should frost on the outside).
4. Strain
Discard the chilling ice from your rocks glass (if using). Using a Hawthorne or julep strainer, strain the cocktail into the chilled rocks glass over one large ice cube or a few fresh ice cubes.
Notes
6. This recipe yields a spirit-forward, bittersweet cocktail that highlights Averna's herbal and caramel notes. Adjust the sweet vermouth or simple syrup to taste if you prefer it drier or sweeter. For a longer pour, increase Averna to 2.5 oz and adjust vermouth proportionally.
