Preparation

1

Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (218°C). This will ensure that the potatoes bake evenly and thoroughly.

2

Prepare the Potatoes

Wash the Russet potatoes under cold running water to remove any dirt. Scrub them with a vegetable brush if necessary. Pat them dry with a clean towel.

3

Pierce the Potatoes

Using a fork, poke several holes (about 6-8) in each potato. This allows steam to escape during the baking process, preventing them from bursting.

4

Season the Potatoes

Rub the potatoes with a little olive oil and sprinkle salt over them. This will help the skins become crispy while baking.

Baking

5

Bake the Potatoes

Place the prepared potatoes directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet. Bake for 45-60 minutes, or until the skins are crispy and a fork can easily pierce through the flesh.

Serving

6

Add Toppings

Once the potatoes are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. Cut a slit in the top of each potato and gently push the ends towards each other to open them up.

7

Finish with Butter and Other Toppings

Add a tablespoon of butter to each potato, followed by sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, and chopped chives. Season with black pepper to taste. Serve immediately.
