1

Muddle

In a sturdy mixing glass or shaker, combine the quartered fresh strawberries, 5 of the basil leaves (reserve 1 for garnish), 0.5 oz simple syrup, and 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice. Using a muddler, press firmly and twist to break down the strawberries and release basil oils. Muddle until the strawberries are mostly broken down and the mixture is fragrant and slightly pulpy (about 20–30 seconds).

2

Add spirits

Add 2 oz JED Purveyors Series Double Oak whiskey to the muddled fruit and basil. If using bitters, add 1 dash now. Fill the shaker or mixing glass with ice (enough to chill but leave room for a gentle shake/stir).

3

Mix and chill

Cap the shaker and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds to chill and slightly dilute, or if using a mixing glass, stir for 12–15 seconds. The goal is to integrate the muddled fruit with the spirit and chill the mixture.

4

Strain and build

Fill a rocks glass with crushed ice or fresh cubes (about 3/4 full). Double‑strain the shaken mixture into the prepared glass through a fine mesh strainer (to remove seeds and basil bits) so the drink is smooth but still fruity. Alternatively, pour directly if you prefer a more rustic presentation.

5

Top with ginger beer

Gently top the cocktail with about 3 oz chilled ginger beer. Stir once or twice gently with a bar spoon to combine without flattening the ginger beer's effervescence.

6

Garnish and serve

Garnish with the reserved basil sprig and a strawberry slice on the rim. Optionally slap the basil sprig between your palms first to release aromatics before garnishing. Serve immediately.
