Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a round cake pan with parchment paper.
- 2
Melt Chocolate and Butter
In a medium saucepan, melt the dark chocolate and unsalted butter over low heat, stirring frequently until smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- 3
Mix Sugar and Eggs
In a large bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar and eggs until combined. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- 4
Combine Mixtures
Add the melted chocolate mixture to the egg mixture and stir until well combined.
- 5
Add Dry Ingredients
Sift together the cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the chocolate mixture until just combined.
- 6
Bake the Cake
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 7
Cool and Frost
Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting with your favorite chocolate icing.
