Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 4-5 liters of water to a rolling boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the boiling water.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Add 200 grams of spaghetti to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions, usually around 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally until al dente.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, reserve 1 cup of pasta water for later use, then drain the spaghetti in a colander.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 4

    Sauté Garlic

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add 3 minced garlic cloves and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn them.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes

Pour in 400 grams of canned tomatoes (with juice) to the skillet. Use a spoon to break up the tomatoes.

  3. 6

    Season the Sauce

Stir in 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, 1 teaspoon of dried basil, 1 teaspoon of sugar, 0.5 teaspoon of salt, and 0.25 teaspoon of black pepper. Mix well.

  4. 7

    Simmer Sauce

Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. If the sauce becomes too thick, add a little reserved pasta water.

Combining and Serving

  1. 8

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Once the sauce is ready, add the drained spaghetti to the skillet. Toss gently to coat the pasta with the marinara sauce. If needed, add more reserved pasta water to achieve the desired consistency.

  2. 9

    Garnish and Serve

Serve the spaghetti on plates, garnishing each serving with fresh basil leaves. Enjoy your meal!
