Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring water to a rolling boil. Add a generous pinch of salt.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once the spaghetti is cooked, drain it in a colander and set aside.

Making Marinara Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté Aromatics

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and finely chopped onion, sautéing until the onion becomes translucent, about 5 minutes.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes

Pour in the canned whole tomatoes, breaking them up with a wooden spoon. Stir in the tomato paste for added richness.

  3. 6

    Season Sauce

Add dried oregano, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes to the sauce. Stir well to combine.

  4. 7

    Simmer Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

  5. 8

    Finish with Fresh Basil

Just before serving, stir in the fresh basil leaves for a burst of flavor.

Combining

  1. 9

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained spaghetti to the marinara sauce in the skillet. Toss to coat the pasta evenly with the sauce.

  2. 10

    Serve

Plate the spaghetti marinara and garnish with additional fresh basil if desired. Enjoy your meal!
