Cheese Mixture

Lasagna

Method

Cheese Mixture Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix the Cheese Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, 2 cups of mozzarella cheese, Romano cheese, egg, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until smooth and well-combined.

Meat Sauce Preparation

  1. 2

    Cook the Meat Sauce

In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil. Once hot, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.

  2. 3

    Add the Ground Beef

Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.

  3. 4

    Stir in Tomatoes and Seasonings

Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Stir to combine and let it simmer for about 15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Lasagna Assembly

  1. 5

    Cook the Lasagna Noodles

In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add the lasagna noodles and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 6

    Layer the Lasagna

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom. Place 3 sheets of lasagna noodles over the sauce, then spread half of the cheese mixture over the noodles.

  3. 7

    Continue Layering

Add another layer of meat sauce, followed by 3 more lasagna noodles. Repeat the cheese mixture and meat sauce layers, finishing with a final layer of noodles. Top the last layer with the remaining meat sauce and sprinkle with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

  4. 8

    Bake the Lasagna

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

  5. 9

    Let it Rest

Remove the lasagna from the oven and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing. This will help the layers set and make it easier to serve.
