Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

Combine Wet Ingredients

  1. 3

    Melt Butter

In a small saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat. Once melted, remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.

  2. 4

    Whisk Eggs and Combine

In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and vanilla extract. Add the melted butter and milk, and mix well until fully combined.

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined; do not overmix.

  2. 6

    Prepare for Baking

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.

  3. 7

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  4. 8

    Cool

Remove the torte from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serving

  1. 9

    Garnish and Serve

Once cooled, dust the top of the torte with powdered sugar. Serve with fresh berries and whipped cream if desired.
