Calamari Preparation

Prepare the Calamari
Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix well.

Coat Calamari
Dip each calamari ring into the wet mixture, then dredge it in the dry mixture until fully coated.

Heat Oil
In a deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Fry Calamari
Carefully add the coated calamari rings to the hot oil in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.

Drain
Remove the fried calamari using a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
Marinara Sauce Preparation

Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer.

Simmer Sauce
Reduce the heat to low and let the marinara sauce simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Finish with Basil
Remove from heat and stir in the chopped fresh basil.
