Hushpuppies
Method
Hushpuppies Preparation
- 1
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir until well mixed.
- 2
- 3
Fold in Fillings
Gently fold in the corn kernels, chopped green onions, and flaked smoked trout into the batter until evenly distributed.
- 4
Heat Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). A small piece of batter dropped into the oil should sizzle immediately.
- 5
Fry Hushpuppies
Using a spoon or small ice cream scoop, carefully drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil. Fry in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan, for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown, turning occasionally.
- 6
Drain and Serve
Once golden brown, remove the hushpuppies from the oil using a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with spicy remoulade.
