Preparation

Prepare the Tomatoes
Wash the heirloom tomatoes thoroughly under cold water. Pat them dry with a paper towel. Remove the stem and cut the tomatoes into thin slices.

Prepare the Mozzarella
Slice the fresh mozzarella into rounds, about 1/4 inch thick. If using a block of mozzarella, you can also tear it into bite-sized pieces.

Prepare the Basil
Wash the fresh basil leaves gently under cold water and pat them dry. Set aside the whole leaves for garnish.
Assembly

Layer the Ingredients
On a large serving platter, arrange the sliced heirloom tomatoes in a circular pattern. Alternate layers with the fresh mozzarella slices.

Add the Basil
Tuck the fresh basil leaves in between the layers of tomatoes and mozzarella for flavor and decoration.

Season the Salad
Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil over the assembled tomatoes and mozzarella. Sprinkle with salt and black pepper to taste.

Serve immediately as a fresh salad or appetizer. Enjoy each bite with a mix of the sweet tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, and aromatic basil.
