Potato Preparation

Serving Suggestions

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Cut Potatoes

Wash the russet potatoes thoroughly to remove any dirt. Cut each potato into thick slices, about 1/4 inch thick. You can leave the skin on for extra texture and flavor.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the potato slices in a large bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and will make the chips crispier.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  2. 4

    Fry the Chips

Once the oil is hot, carefully add a handful of potato slices to the pot, making sure not to overcrowd. Fry them in batches for about 5-7 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  3. 5

    Drain and Season

Using a slotted spoon, remove the chips from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Immediately sprinkle with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to taste while they are still hot.

Serving

  1. 6

    Garnish and Serve

Chop the fresh parsley and sprinkle it over the chips for added freshness. Serve the chips hot with ketchup or your favorite dipping sauce on the side.
