Sausage Gravy

Method

Biscuits

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). This will ensure that your biscuits are baked to perfection.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, and 0.5 teaspoon of salt. Whisk together until well combined.

  3. 3

    Cut in Butter

Cut 0.5 cups of unsalted butter into small pieces and add to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. 4

    Add Milk

Add 3 tablespoons of milk to the mixture and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

  5. 5

    Shape the Dough

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times. Pat it into a circle about 1 inch thick.

  6. 6

    Cut Biscuits

Use a biscuit cutter or a glass to cut out biscuits from the dough. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  7. 7

    Bake

Bake the biscuits in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown on top.

Sausage Gravy

  1. 8

    Cook the Sausage

In a large skillet over medium heat, add 1 pound of ground sausage. Cook until browned and fully cooked, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks.

  2. 9

    Make the Roux

Once the sausage is cooked, sprinkle 0.25 cups of all-purpose flour over the sausage. Stir to coat the sausage in the flour and cook for about 1-2 minutes.

  3. 10

    Add Milk

Slowly pour in 2 cups of milk while stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

  4. 11

    Season the Gravy

Add 0.5 teaspoon of salt, 0.5 teaspoon of black pepper, and cayenne pepper to taste. Continue to cook until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

  5. 12

    Serve

Once the biscuits are done baking and the gravy has thickened, serve the biscuits warm with the sausage gravy poured generously on top.
