Gallon Unsweetened Tea

Method

Gallon Unsweetened Tea

  1. 1

    Heat water

In a large pot, heat 1 gallon of fresh water until just about to boil (hot, but not fully boiling).

  2. 2

    Add tea bags

Remove from heat; immediately add 10 black tea bags to the hot water. Cover and let steep for 10–15 minutes.

  3. 3

    Remove bags

Remove and discard tea bags. Do not squeeze them, as that can release bitter compounds.

  4. 4

    Cool tea

Allow the tea to cool to room temperature, about 30–60 minutes.

  5. 5

    Chill

Transfer the tea to a clean pitcher and refrigerate until cold, at least 2 hours.

  6. 6

    Serve

Pour the unsweetened tea into glasses. Serve over ice if desired; since it’s unsweetened, sugar or sweeteners can be offered on the side.
