Potatoes

Oil for Frying

Method

Preparing the Potatoes

  1. 1

    Wash and Peel

Thoroughly wash the Russet potatoes under cold running water. Peel the potatoes using a vegetable peeler, removing all the skin.

  2. 2

    Cut into Strips

Cut the peeled potatoes into 1/4 inch thick strips, ensuring that they are uniform in size for even cooking.

  3. 3

    Soak in Water

Place the cut potato strips into a large bowl filled with cold water. Soak for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch, which will help in achieving a crispy texture.

Frying the Potatoes

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  2. 5

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture, which can cause the oil to splatter.

  3. 6

    Fry in Batches

Carefully add a handful of the dried potato strips to the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  4. 7

    Drain the Fries

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.

Seasoning the Fries

  1. 8

    Season with Salt

Immediately sprinkle the hot fries with salt, garlic powder, paprika, and pepper (to taste) while they are still hot for better adherence.

  2. 9

    Serve Warm

Serve the Pommes Frites warm with your choice of dipping sauces like ketchup or mayonnaise.
