Cooking Pasta

Boil Water
In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a rolling boil. Add 1 tsp of salt.

Cook Macaroni
Add 2 cups of elbow macaroni to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 7-8 minutes.

Drain Pasta
Once cooked, drain the macaroni in a colander and set aside.
Making Cheese Sauce

Melt Butter
In the same pot used for the macaroni, melt 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter over medium heat.

Add Flour
Once melted, whisk in 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour. Cook for about 1 minute to form a roux.

Pour in Milk
Gradually whisk in 2 cups of milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Cook until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

Add Cheese
Stir in 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese and 1 cup of softened cream cheese until completely melted and smooth.

Season Sauce
Add garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, black pepper, mustard powder, and 0.5 tsp of salt. Mix well to combine.
Combining and Baking

Combine Pasta and Sauce
Add the drained macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until the pasta is thoroughly coated.

Prepare Topping (Optional)
In a small bowl, mix breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, and melted butter.

Transfer the macaroni and cheese mixture to a baking dish. If using, sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture on top. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
