Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a rolling boil. Add 1 tsp of salt.

  2. 2

    Cook Macaroni

Add 2 cups of elbow macaroni to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 7-8 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the macaroni in a colander and set aside.

Making Cheese Sauce

  1. 4

    Melt Butter

In the same pot used for the macaroni, melt 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter over medium heat.

  2. 5

    Add Flour

Once melted, whisk in 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour. Cook for about 1 minute to form a roux.

  3. 6

    Pour in Milk

Gradually whisk in 2 cups of milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Cook until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

  4. 7

    Add Cheese

Stir in 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese and 1 cup of softened cream cheese until completely melted and smooth.

  5. 8

    Season Sauce

Add garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, black pepper, mustard powder, and 0.5 tsp of salt. Mix well to combine.

Combining and Baking

  1. 9

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until the pasta is thoroughly coated.

  2. 10

    Prepare Topping (Optional)

In a small bowl, mix breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, and melted butter.

  3. 11

    Bake

Transfer the macaroni and cheese mixture to a baking dish. If using, sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture on top. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden and bubbly.

  4. 12

    Serve

Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your delicious Mac & Fromage!
