Method

Cake Base

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the cake.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Baking Pan

Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans to prevent sticking.

  3. 3

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  4. 4

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix well until the batter is smooth.

  5. 5

    Incorporate Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water into the batter. This will thin it out, but it’s essential for a moist cake.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cakes

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.

Chocolate Ganache

  1. 8

    Heat the Cream

In a small saucepan over medium heat, bring the heavy cream to a simmer. Do not let it boil.

  2. 9

    Combine with Chocolate

Remove the saucepan from heat and add the dark chocolate chips. Stir until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth.

  3. 10

    Add Butter

Stir in the butter until fully incorporated. Let the ganache cool slightly before using.

Assembly

  1. 11

    Layer the Cakes

Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of ganache on top.

  2. 12

    Add Second Layer

Place the second cake layer on top of the first and spread ganache over the top and sides of the cake.

  3. 13

    Decorate the Cake

Sprinkle chocolate shavings on top and garnish with fresh berries for a beautiful finish.
