Crab Melt Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Bacon

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon slices until crispy. Once done, remove them from the skillet and place them on a paper towel to drain excess fat. Crumble the bacon into small pieces and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Mornay Sauce

In the same skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Once melted, add 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour and whisk until smooth, cooking for about 1-2 minutes until slightly golden. Gradually add 1 cup of milk while continuously whisking to prevent lumps. Continue to cook until the sauce thickens, about 3-5 minutes.

  3. 3

    Add Cheese and Seasoning

Remove the skillet from heat. Stir in 1 cup of gruyere cheese until melted and smooth. Add 1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard, 0.5 teaspoon of salt, and 0.25 teaspoon of black pepper. Mix well.

  4. 4

    Combine Crab and Bacon

Gently fold in the lump crabmeat and crumbled bacon into the mornay sauce. Ensure that the crab and bacon are evenly coated with the sauce.

  5. 5

    Prepare the Bread

Preheat your oven's broiler. Place the slices of bread on a baking sheet.

  6. 6

    Assemble the Crab Melt

Spoon the crab mixture generously over each slice of bread, spreading it evenly.

  7. 7

    Broil the Crab Melt

Place the baking sheet under the broiler for about 3-5 minutes, or until the crab melt is bubbly and golden brown. Keep a close eye on it to prevent burning.

  8. 8

    Garnish and Serve

Remove from the oven and garnish with chopped parsley. Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious crab melt!
