Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Muddle raspberries

Place the 6 fresh or frozen raspberries and the simple syrup (0.5 oz) into a cocktail shaker. Using a muddler or the back of a spoon, gently muddle until the raspberries are broken down and release their juice, creating a pulpy purée.

  2. 2

    Add spirits and citrus

Add 2 oz vodka, 0.5 oz raspberry liqueur, and 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice to the shaker with the muddled raspberries.

  3. 3

    Shake with ice

Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup), secure the lid, and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker feels cold and slightly frosty. This chills and dilutes the cocktail to the proper balance.

  4. 4

    Double strain

Place a fine-mesh strainer over a chilled martini glass (or coupe). Pour the cocktail through the shaker strainer and then through the fine-mesh strainer to remove seeds and pulp, yielding a smooth, clear pink drink.

  5. 5

    Garnish and serve

Thread the 2 whole raspberries onto a cocktail pick or drop them into the glass and add an optional lemon twist on the rim. Serve immediately while cold.
