Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Chill glass

Place a rocks glass or old fashioned glass in the freezer or fill it with ice water to chill while you build the cocktail.

  2. 2

    Combine ingredients

In a mixing glass or cocktail shaker without ice, add 2 oz bourbon, 0.5 oz dry vermouth, 0.5 oz sweet vermouth, 0.25 oz amaro, 0.25 oz simple syrup, 2 dashes orange bitters and 1 dash Angostura bitters.

  3. 3

    Add ice and stir

Fill the mixing glass with large ice cubes (about 3). Stir gently but thoroughly for 30–45 seconds until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted (the mixing glass will feel very cold).

  4. 4

    Prepare glass

Discard ice water from the chilled rocks glass (if used) and add one large ice cube or two in the glass.

  5. 5

    Strain and garnish

Strain the chilled cocktail from the mixing glass into the prepared rocks glass over the ice. Express the orange peel over the drink by holding it skin-side down and giving it a firm twist to release oils, then rub the peel around the rim and drop it into the glass as garnish.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve immediately while cold. Sip slowly to enjoy the layered vermouth and amaro flavors balanced by the bourbon.
