Prepare the Glass
Start by chilling an Old Fashioned glass. You can do this by filling it with ice water and letting it sit while you prepare the cocktail.

Muddle Ingredients
In a separate mixing glass, place the sugar cube and add 2 dashes of aromatic bitters. Muddle these together until the sugar is dissolved.

Add Bourbon
Pour 2 oz of Makers Mark Bourbon into the mixing glass with the muddled sugar and bitters.

Add Orange Essence
Add 1 tsp of orange essence to the mixing glass to impart a fragrant citrus aroma.

Mix the Cocktail
Fill the mixing glass with ice cubes and stir the mixture for about 30 seconds until well chilled.

Strain the Cocktail
Dump the ice water from the chilled Old Fashioned glass and strain the cocktail mixture into the glass over fresh ice cubes (3 cubes).

Garnish
Take an orange twist and express the oils over the drink before placing it in the glass as a garnish.
