Method
Prepare Glass and Garnish
- 1
Salt the rim
Rub the lime wedge around the outer rim of a rocks or coupe glass, then dip the rim into a shallow plate of coarse sea or smoked salt to coat. Set the glass aside to dry while you prepare the cocktail.
Muddle Herbs
- 2
In a shaker, place the cilantro leaves and mint leaves. Add the agave syrup and fresh lime juice. Using a sturdy muddler, gently press and twist the herbs 6–8 times to release their oils and aroma. Avoid over-muddling to prevent excessive bitterness.
Build and Shake
- 3
Add the reposado tequila, mezcal, fresh orange juice and (if using) green chartreuse to the shaker with the muddled herbs and syrups. Fill the shaker with ice (about 3/4 full or ~1 cup). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until well-chilled and slightly frothy.
Strain and Serve
- 4
Double-strain the cocktail into the prepared glass over fresh ice (use a fine mesh strainer in addition to the shaker strainer) to remove herb bits. If you prefer a neat presentation, serve without ice in a chilled coupe.
Garnish
- 5
Express a lime wheel over the drink (twist to release oils) and drop it in or hang it on the rim. Finish with a small cilantro sprig on top for aroma. Serve immediately.
