Garlic Butter

Method

Garlic Butter

  1. 1

    Soften butter

Remove the unsalted butter from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for 15–20 minutes until soft enough to mix easily. Alternatively, microwave on low power for 10–12 seconds, checking so it doesn't melt.

  2. 2

    Prepare garlic

Peel the garlic cloves and finely mince or grate them using a microplane. If you prefer a milder garlic flavor, smash the cloves with the flat side of a knife and finely chop, or use 2 cloves instead of 4.

  3. 3

    Mix

In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, lemon juice (if using), salt, and black pepper. Use a fork to mash and thoroughly incorporate until smooth and evenly mixed. Taste and adjust salt or lemon as needed.

Assemble & Bake

  1. 4

    Preheat

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). If using a toaster oven or broiler for a quicker finish, you can use that later for browning.

  2. 5

    Prepare bread

Place the two large slices of bread on a baking sheet. If desired, lightly brush the cut sides with olive oil for extra crispness.

  3. 6

    Spread butter

Divide the garlic butter evenly and spread a generous layer on the cut side of each bread slice, covering edge to edge so every bite has garlic butter.

  4. 7

    Add cheese (optional)

If using grated Parmesan or mozzarella, sprinkle it evenly over the buttered sides now.

  5. 8

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven on the middle rack for 8–12 minutes, until the butter is melted and the bread edges begin to brown. For a crispier top or melted-bubbly cheese, switch the oven to broil for the last 1–2 minutes, watching carefully to avoid burning.

  6. 9

    Finish & serve

Remove from the oven and let cool for 1 minute. Optionally sprinkle a few more chopped parsley leaves. Slice each large piece in half if desired and serve warm.
