Fresh Strawberry Bowl
Optional garnish & serving
Method
Fresh Strawberry Bowl
Prepare and hull
Rinse the strawberries under cold water in a colander for about 20β30 seconds. Gently pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels. Remove the green stems and hull each berry using a small paring knife or a strawberry huller; leave larger berries halved and keep smaller ones whole.
Sweeten and macerate
Place the hulled strawberries in a medium bowl. Sprinkle the granulated sugar evenly over the berries, pour in the lemon juice and add the vanilla extract. Gently toss with a spoon or spatula so berries are coated. Let the mixture sit at room temperature for 15β20 minutes so the sugar draws out juices and the strawberries macerate (become syrupy). Stir once or twice during this time to redistribute juices.
Adjust sweetness
After macerating, taste a spoonful of the berries. If you prefer them sweeter, add up to 1 additional teaspoon of sugar and stir. If too sweet or very syrupy, stir in a few drops more lemon juice to balance.
Optional garnish & serving
Toast almonds (optional)
Prepare garnishes: lightly toast sliced almonds in a dry skillet over medium heat for 2β3 minutes, stirring, until fragrant and golden. Let cool.
Assemble
Spoon the macerated strawberries into small bowls. Top each serving with a dollop of whipped cream or a spoonful of yogurt if using. Sprinkle toasted almonds and tuck a couple of fresh mint leaves on top for color and freshness.
Storage & serving
Serve immediately for the best texture. Leftover macerated strawberries can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days; bring to room temperature briefly before serving for best flavor.
