Method
Coffee base
Grind beans
Measure 0.5 cup decaffeinated whole beans (about 45–50 g). Grind to a medium-coarse consistency for a French press or medium-fine for drip brew. Grind just before brewing for best flavor.
Heat water
Bring 600 ml filtered water to just off boil, about 92–96°C (195–205°F). If you don't have a thermometer, bring to a boil then let sit 30 seconds.
Bloom (for pour-over or French press)
Place coffee grounds in your brewer. Pour 60–80 ml hot water evenly over grounds to saturate them and let bloom for 30–45 seconds. This releases trapped gases and improves extraction.
Brew
Slowly pour remaining water over grounds if using pour-over, aiming for a total brew time of 3–4 minutes for pour-over or 4 minutes steep for French press. For drip, use the machine's normal cycle. For immersion (French press), press plunger slowly after 4 minutes.
Filter and transfer
If using a pour-over or drip, allow all water to pass through the filter. If using French press, press and immediately pour the coffee into a serving carafe to avoid over-extraction.
Optional additions
Sweeten
Stir in up to 1 tsp sweetener while the coffee is hot so it dissolves completely. Adjust to taste.
Add milk
Warm 1/4 cup milk if desired (microwave 20–30 seconds or steam). Froth lightly if you prefer a latte-style texture, then pour into brewed coffee.
Finish with spice
Sprinkle 1/8 tsp ground cinnamon on top, or mix into the cup for a mild spice note.
Equipment & serving
Serve hot
Pour coffee into a cup and serve immediately after adding any optional ingredients.
Serve iced (optional)
To make iced Decaf Clean Coffee: brew a slightly stronger batch (use about 10–15% more grounds or reduce water to 525–540 ml). Let cool for 10–15 minutes, fill a tall glass with 6 ice pieces, pour coffee over ice, then add sweetener or milk if desired.
