Method
Pork Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Pork
Rub the pork shoulder with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. Ensure the rub is evenly distributed over the entire piece of meat.
- 2
Cook the Pork
Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until the pork is fork-tender.
BBQ Sauce Preparation
- 3
Make the BBQ Sauce
In a medium saucepan, combine ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, smoked paprika, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Stir well and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.
Finishing Touches
- 4
Shred the Pork
Once the pork is cooked, remove it from the slow cooker and let it rest for 10 minutes. Using two forks, shred the pork into bite-sized pieces.
- 5
Combine with BBQ Sauce
Mix the shredded pork with the prepared BBQ sauce in a large bowl until the pork is well-coated.
- 6
Assemble the Sandwiches
To serve, place a generous amount of BBQ pulled pork on the bottom half of a burger bun. Top with coleslaw and place the top half of the bun on. Serve immediately.
