Method

Cakes

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cakes

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Pastries

  1. 7

    Prepare the Dough

In a large bowl, mix together the flour, cold butter, sugar, baking powder, and salt using a pastry cutter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  2. 8

    Add Wet Ingredients

Stir in the heavy cream and egg yolk until just combined. Do not overmix.

  3. 9

    Shape the Pastries

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface, knead gently, and roll out to about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into desired shapes.

  4. 10

    Bake the Pastries

Place the cut pastries on a baking sheet and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

Frosting

  1. 11

    Prepare the Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing until smooth.

  2. 12

    Add Flavor

Stir in the vanilla extract and milk until the frosting reaches your desired consistency.

  3. 13

    Frost the Cakes

Once the cakes are completely cooled, spread the frosting evenly over the top of one cake layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides as desired.
