Method
Prepare Sauce Base
- 1
Combine Base Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, and honey. Whisk together until the mixture is smooth and the sugar is fully dissolved.
- 2
Add Molasses
Stir in the molasses until well incorporated into the sauce base.
Add Seasonings
- 3
Mix in Seasonings
Add the Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper to the sauce base. Whisk thoroughly to combine all the seasonings evenly.
Cook the Sauce
- 4
Simmer the Sauce
Transfer the mixture to a medium saucepan. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Stir frequently to prevent sticking.
- 5
Reduce Heat and Cook
Once simmering, reduce the heat to low and let the sauce cook for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. This will help the flavors meld together and thicken the sauce.
Cool and Store
- 6
Cool the Sauce
Remove the saucepan from heat and let the sauce cool for about 10-15 minutes.
- 7
Store the Sauce
Transfer the cooled BBQ sauce to an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
