Method

Cooking the Ziti

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 4 quarts of water to a rolling boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the water.

  2. 2

    Cook Pasta

Add the ziti pasta to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the pasta in a colander and set aside.

Making the House-Made Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté Garlic

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

  3. 6

    Simmer Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.

  4. 7

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained ziti pasta to the sauce in the skillet. Toss well to coat the pasta with the sauce. Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese, mixing until melted and evenly combined.

Butter Option

  1. 8

    Melt Butter

In a separate small saucepan, melt 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter over low heat.

  2. 9

    Combine with Pasta

Once melted, pour the butter over the cooked ziti and toss with chopped parsley for a fresh flavor.
