Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let the Dough Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Assemble and Bake

  1. 5

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat.

  2. 6

    Shape the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it back to a floured surface. Roll it out into a 12-inch round pizza base.

  3. 7

    Add Sauce and Cheese

Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the pizza base, leaving a small border around the edges. Tear the fresh mozzarella into pieces and distribute them over the sauce.

  4. 8

    Drizzle with Olive Oil

Drizzle 2 tablespoons of olive oil over the top and sprinkle with salt.

  5. 9

    Bake the Pizza

Carefully transfer the pizza onto the preheated stone or baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.

  6. 10

    Garnish with Basil

Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately top with fresh basil leaves. Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing.
