Method
For the Fish
- 1
Prepare the Batter
In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually whisk in the beer until the batter is smooth and free of lumps.
- 2
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small amount of batter into the oil; it should sizzle and float to the top.
- 3
Batter and Cook the Fish
Dip each fish fillet into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated. Carefully place the battered fish into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
For the Chips (Fries)
- 4
Prepare the Potatoes
Peel the potatoes and cut them into thick strips to form chips. Rinse them under cold water to remove excess starch, then pat dry with a clean towel.
- 5
Heat the Oil and Fry the Chips
In a separate deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry the potato strips in batches for about 5-7 minutes or until they are golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels, then sprinkle with salt.
For the Tartar Sauce

Mix the Ingredients
In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, finely chopped pickles, capers, lemon juice, and fresh dill. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
