Method
Cake Directions
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- 2
Combine Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- 3
Melt Butter
In a medium saucepan, melt the cup of unsalted butter over medium heat. Once melted, remove from heat and stir in the stout beer until well combined.
- 4
Mix Sugars and Eggs
In a large mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and eggs. Beat until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Add the melted butter and stout mixture and the vanilla extract. Mix well.
- 5
Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.
- 6
Bake the Cake
Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- 7
Cool the Cakes
Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Frosting Directions
- 8
Prepare the Frosting
In a large mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth and creamy.
- 9
Add Sugar and Flavoring
Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing until well incorporated. Then stir in the vanilla extract and cocoa powder, mixing until the frosting is smooth.
- 10
Frost the Cake
Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of frosting on top of the first layer, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
