Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. 2

    Melt Chocolate and Butter

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the unsweetened chocolate and unsalted butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until completely melted and smooth.

  3. 3

    Mix Sugar and Eggs

In a separate bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, large eggs, and large egg yolks until well combined and slightly frothy.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the melted chocolate mixture to the egg mixture, stirring continuously to prevent the eggs from cooking.

  5. 5

    Add Vanilla and Flour

Stir in the vanilla extract, all-purpose flour, and a pinch of salt until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

  6. 6

    Prepare Ramekins

Grease four ramekins with butter and dust with flour to prevent sticking. Tap out any excess flour.

  7. 7

    Fill Ramekins

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling them about 3/4 full.

  8. 8

    Bake

Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is still soft.

  9. 9

    Cool Slightly

Remove the ramekins from the oven and let them cool for about 1 minute.

  10. 10

    Invert and Serve

Carefully run a knife around the edges of each ramekin, then invert onto a plate. Serve immediately with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and garnish with chocolate shavings.
