Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine 1.75 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 cups of granulated sugar, 0.75 cups of cocoa powder, 1.5 tsp of baking powder, 1.5 tsp of baking soda, and 1 tsp of salt. Whisk together until well mixed.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat together 2 eggs, 1 cup of whole milk, 0.5 cups of vegetable oil, and 2 tsp of vanilla extract until fully combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Stir in 1 cup of boiling water (the batter will be thin).

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cake

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Directions

  1. 7

    Prepare the Frosting

In a medium bowl, combine 0.5 cups of cocoa powder and 0.5 cups of softened butter. Beat until smooth.

  2. 8

    Add Sugar and Milk

Gradually add 3 cups of powdered sugar, alternating with 0.25 cups of milk, beating until the frosting reaches a spreadable consistency. Stir in 1 tsp of vanilla extract.

  3. 9

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, spread the frosting evenly over the top of one cake layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the entire cake.

Serving Directions

  1. 10

    Serve with Ice Cream

Slice the chocolate cake and serve each slice with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
