Method
Dough & Base
- 1
Preheat
Preheat oven to 500°F (260°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while preheating for at least 30 minutes. If using a baking sheet, oil lightly and set aside.
- 2
Prepare dough
On a lightly floured surface, stretch or roll the pizza dough to a 12-inch round (or desired size/thickness). Create a slightly thicker rim for the crust by pushing the edge outward with your fingers.
- 3
- 4
Spread sauce
Spoon and spread the pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving the rim (crust) exposed by about 1/2 inch.
Cheese Blend
- 5
Mix cheeses
In a bowl, toss the shredded mozzarella and provolone together so they distribute evenly. Fold in the grated romano so the salty, sharp flavor is evenly incorporated.
- 6
Add cheeses to pizza
Evenly distribute the cheese blend over the sauce, making sure to reach close to the edge but not over the crust. Use all the cheese for a classic, melty coverage.
Bake & Finish
- 7
Bake
Transfer the pizza to the preheated stone or baking sheet. Bake for 8–12 minutes, rotating halfway through, until the crust is golden-brown and the cheese is fully melted with light browning and bubbling. Baking time varies with oven and thickness.
- 8
Season and rest
Remove pizza from oven. Immediately sprinkle dried oregano and red pepper flakes over the hot cheese. Let rest 2–3 minutes to set so slices hold together.
- 9
Garnish and serve
Tear fresh basil leaves and scatter on top (if using). Optionally grate a little parmesan over the pizza. Slice into 6–8 pieces and serve hot.
