Ingredients for Blanton's Bourbon
Method
Instructions for Making Blanton's Bourbon
- 1
Mash Preparation
Combine the corn, rye, and malted barley in a large mash tun. Add hot water to the grain mixture and stir well. Allow it to rest for about 60 minutes at a temperature of 150-160°F (65-71°C) to convert the starches to sugars.
- 2
Fermentation
After the mashing process, cool the mixture to about 70°F (21°C) and add yeast. Allow it to ferment for about 5-7 days until bubbling ceases.
- 3
Distillation
Transfer the fermented mash to a still and distill the liquid. The first distillation will be done in a pot still to separate the alcohol from the solids.
- 4
Aging
The spirit then goes into new charred oak barrels for aging. For Blanton's, this typically occurs for at least 6-8 years.
- 5
Bottling
After aging, the bourbon is filtered and bottled. You can add caramel coloring, honey, nutmeg, and vanilla extract to taste before sealing.
