Bloody Mary Mix & Base

Method

Bloody Mary Mix & Assembly

  1. 1

    Season and mix

In a cocktail shaker or large pint glass, combine tomato juice, fresh lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, prepared horseradish, hot sauce, pickle brine, celery salt, and black pepper. Stir or gently roll the mixture to combine—do not vigorous shake once tomato juice is added to avoid foaming.

  2. 2

    Prepare glass

Rub the lemon wedge around the rim of a highball or pint glass. Dip the rim into coarse salt or celery salt to coat lightly. Fill the glass with ice (about 1 cup).

  3. 3

    Add vodka and serve

Pour the vodka over the ice in the prepared glass. Strain or pour the Bloody Mary mix on top of the vodka and ice, gently stir once to integrate the vodka and mix. Taste and adjust: add more hot sauce or pickle brine if you prefer more heat or tang.

Garnishing

  1. 4

    Skewer the garnish

Take the cocktail pick or bamboo skewer and thread the items in this order for stability and presentation: first a slice or fold of summer sausage (two slices stacked), then the Union Star cheese whip, followed by the green olive, and finish with the dill pickle spear. If the pickle is large, you may skewer it lengthwise or cut into a wedge that sits well on the pick. Leave about 1–2 inches of skewer to rest across the rim of the glass.

  2. 5

    Finish and optional celery

Rest the completed skewer across the rim of the glass so the pickle/olive assembly is visible above the drink. Optionally add a celery stalk alongside the skewer for extra appearance and stir capability. Serve immediately with a straw.
