Strawberry Layer

Nutella Layer

Method

Strawberry Layer

  1. 1

    Prepare strawberries

Rinse and hull 2 cups of fresh strawberries. Cut larger berries into quarters and leave smaller berries halved.

  2. 2

Place the cut strawberries in a medium bowl. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice over them. Gently toss to combine.

  3. 3

Let the strawberries macerate for 15–20 minutes at room temperature so they release juices and become slightly syrupy. Stir once or twice during this time.

  4. 4

After macerating, reserve the strawberry juices in the bowl; you will spoon some into the dessert when assembling for extra flavor.

Nutella Layer

  1. 5

Spoon 1 cup Nutella into a small microwave-safe bowl. Add 2 tablespoons milk to loosen the spread for easier layering.

  2. 6

Microwave the Nutella and milk in 10–15 second bursts, stirring between bursts, until the mixture is smooth and slightly pourable but not hot (about 20–30 seconds total depending on microwave). Alternatively, warm gently over a double boiler and stir until smooth.

  3. 7

Let the warmed Nutella cool for 2–3 minutes so it thickens slightly but remains spreadable.

Whipped Cream & Assembly

  1. 8

Chill a medium mixing bowl and the beaters (optional but helps). Pour 1 cup chilled heavy cream into the bowl. Add 2 teaspoons powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.

  2. 9

Whip the cream on medium-high speed until soft peaks form (about 2–3 minutes). Do not overwhip; you want a light, pillowy texture.

  3. 10

Taste the macerated strawberries and adjust sweetness if needed by stirring in up to 1 additional teaspoon sugar (optional).

  4. 11

To assemble 4 individual servings (or one trifle-style bowl), layer as follows: place about 2 tablespoons of the strawberry mixture (berries + some juices) into the bottom of each serving glass or bowl.

  5. 12

Spoon or pipe about 2 tablespoons of the warm-but-not-hot Nutella mixture over the strawberries, smoothing gently with the back of a spoon.

  6. 13

Add about 3 tablespoons of whipped cream on top of the Nutella layer and smooth or swirl.

  7. 14

Repeat a second thin layer if your serving vessel allows: another 1–2 tablespoons strawberries, 1–2 tablespoons Nutella, and finish with a generous dollop (about 2–3 tablespoons) of whipped cream on top.

  8. 15

Garnish each serving with a halved fresh strawberry and a light sprinkle of chopped hazelnuts (about ½ teaspoon per serving) if using.

  9. 16

Serve immediately for best texture, or chill for up to 30 minutes to let layers set. If refrigerated longer, the whipped cream may soften and the Nutella layer will firm up.
