Preparation

  1. 1

    Chill the Glass

Begin by chilling a coupe or martini glass. You can do this by filling it with ice water and letting it sit while you prepare the cocktail.

  2. 2

    Mix the Ingredients

In a mixing glass, combine 2 oz of cognac, 1 oz of dry vermouth, 0.5 oz of Benedictine, and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.

  3. 3

    Add Ice

Fill the mixing glass with ice cubes (about 1 cup) to chill the mixture effectively.

  4. 4

    Stir

Using a bar spoon, stir the mixture gently for about 20-30 seconds until well chilled and diluted.

  5. 5

    Strain into Glass

Remove the ice water from the chilled glass and use a fine mesh strainer to pour the cocktail mixture into the glass.

  6. 6

    Garnish

Garnish the drink with a maraschino cherry and a twist of orange peel for added aroma and flavor.
