Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.

  4. 4

    Incorporate Boiling Water

Stir in the boiling water until the batter is well combined. The batter will be thin.

  5. 5

    Bake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool Cakes

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 7

    Beat Butter

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy and smooth.

  2. 8

    Add Cocoa Powder

Gradually add the cocoa powder and beat until fully combined.

  3. 9

    Incorporate Sugar and Milk

Add the powdered sugar and milk, alternating between the two, until the frosting reaches your desired consistency.

  4. 10

    Add Vanilla

Stir in the vanilla extract and mix until well combined.

  5. 11

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, spread the frosting evenly on top of one layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the cake.
