Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Rinse the Oats

In a fine mesh strainer, rinse the steel cut oats under cold running water for about 30 seconds to remove any dust or impurities.

  2. 2

    Boil Water

In a medium-sized pot, bring 4 cups of water to a rolling boil over high heat.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Add Ingredients

Once the water is boiling, add the rinsed steel cut oats and 1 teaspoon of salt. Stir to combine.

  2. 4

    Simmer

Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer uncovered for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oats are tender and have absorbed most of the water.

  3. 5

    Add Raisins and Brown Sugar

In the last 5 minutes of cooking, stir in the raisins and brown sugar, allowing them to soften and infuse their sweetness into the oatmeal.

Finishing Touches

  1. 6

    Add Milk

Once the oatmeal is cooked, remove the pot from heat and stir in 1 cup of milk for creaminess. You can add more or less based on your preference.

  2. 7

    Serve

Ladle the oatmeal into bowls and serve warm. Add additional brown sugar or raisins on top if desired.
