Rinse the Oats
In a fine mesh strainer, rinse the steel cut oats under cold running water for about 30 seconds to remove any dust or impurities.

Boil Water
In a medium-sized pot, bring 4 cups of water to a rolling boil over high heat.
Cooking

Add Ingredients
Once the water is boiling, add the rinsed steel cut oats and 1 teaspoon of salt. Stir to combine.

Simmer
Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer uncovered for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oats are tender and have absorbed most of the water.

Add Raisins and Brown Sugar
In the last 5 minutes of cooking, stir in the raisins and brown sugar, allowing them to soften and infuse their sweetness into the oatmeal.

Ladle the oatmeal into bowls and serve warm. Add additional brown sugar or raisins on top if desired.
