Mousse Preparation
- 1
Melt the Chocolate and Butter
In a heatproof bowl, combine the dark chocolate and unsalted butter. Place the bowl over a saucepan of simmering water (double boiler method) and stir until melted and smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- 2
Whisk Eggs and Sugar
In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, granulated sugar, and a pinch of salt until pale and frothy, about 3-5 minutes.
- 3
Combine Mixtures
Gently fold the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture. Add the vanilla extract and mix until fully combined.
- 4
Chill the Mousse
Pour the mousse mixture into serving dishes or ramekins. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until set.
Whipped Cream Preparation
- 5
Prepare Whipped Cream
In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Using an electric mixer, whip on high speed until soft peaks form, about 2-4 minutes.
- 6
Top the Mousse
Once the mousse is set, remove from the refrigerator and dollop the whipped cream on top of each serving. Optionally, sprinkle with chocolate shavings or cocoa powder for garnish.
