Main components

Method

Main components

  1. 1

    Prepare meats and cheeses

If not pre-sliced, slice the deli meats thinly against the grain and fold or roll into bite-size portions. Arrange the cheeses into slices or small wedges for easy picking. Keep each cheese grouped so guests can see options.

  2. 2

    Prepare bread and crackers

Slice the baguette into 1/4-inch slices. Optionally toast lightly in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 6–8 minutes until just crisp. Arrange crackers in small stacks or fan them out on the board.

  3. 3

    Prepare fruit and olives

Rinse grapes and tomatoes, pat dry. Remove any stems and halve grape tomatoes if large. Place grapes and olives in small bowls to contain juices and brine; set on the board with other components.

Dips & spreads

  1. 4

    Plate spreads

Spoon the herbed cream cheese into a small shallow bowl and smooth the top. Place whole grain mustard and hummus in separate small bowls. Warm fig jam slightly (15–20 seconds in microwave) to loosen if very thick, then transfer to a small bowl. Arrange the bowls on the board with small spreaders or spoons.

  2. 5

If desired, stir one teaspoon of honey into the fig jam for extra shine and spoon a small drizzle of honey over the herbed cream cheese just before serving.

Garnishes & extras

  1. 6

    Prepare nut garnish

Toast the walnuts or almonds in a dry skillet over medium heat for 3–4 minutes, shaking frequently until fragrant and lightly browned. Remove from heat and let cool; roughly chop if whole.

  2. 7

    Finish and season

Scatter microgreens or baby arugula in small clusters around the board. Zest the lemon over the cheeses and squeeze a little lemon juice onto the hummus to brighten it (about 1 tsp). Sprinkle toasted nuts over the herbed cream cheese or fig jam. Finish with a light sprinkle of sea salt and freshly ground black pepper over the cheese and tomato clusters.

  3. 8

Tuck fresh rosemary sprigs around the platter for aroma and visual interest. Place any leftover honey in a small dish with a honey dipper for guests to drizzle.

Assembly & serving

  1. 9

Choose a large board or shallow tray. Start by placing bowls of spreads and bowls of olives/grapes spaced across the board to anchor the arrangement. Arrange cheeses in separate clusters with small cheese knives, then place folded or rolled meats nearby to create balanced visual sections. Fill gaps with crackers, sliced baguette, grape tomatoes, and clusters of grapes.

  2. 10

Add the garnishes (nuts, microgreens, rosemary). Drizzle honey over one cheese wedge if using and place small labels or cards if you want to identify cheeses and spreads. Provide toothpicks or small forks for olives and tomatoes.

  3. 11

Serve immediately at room temperature for best flavor. Periodically refresh with more crackers and bread as guests eat.
