Method

Cocktail Base

  1. 1

    Prepare and Shake

Add 2 oz Don Julio Reposado, 0.75 oz Aperol, 1.5 oz fresh grapefruit juice, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice and 0.25 oz simple syrup into a cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker with ice until about three-quarters full.

  2. 2

Shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker feels very cold and slightly frosted. This chills and dilutes the mix to proper balance.

Strain & Build

  1. 3

Double-strain the shaken mixture into a chilled coupe or a large martini-style glass (or a rocks glass over a large ice cube if preferred) to remove ice shards and pulp.

  2. 4

Measure and gently pour 2 oz chilled Gruet Sparkling Rosé down the side of the glass so it layers and preserves effervescence. Do not stir vigorously; a gentle back-and-forth tilt of the glass will integrate the bubbles without flattening them.

Garnish & Serve

  1. 5

Express the oils of a grapefruit twist over the top of the cocktail by holding the twist with the peel facing down and quickly pinching it above the drink. Rub the twist around the rim if desired, then drop it into the drink or place a thin fresh slice/dehydrated wheel on the rim.

  2. 6

Serve immediately while sparkling. Optional: Provide a short stirring pick so the guest can briefly combine the rosé with the base if they prefer a more homogeneous drink.

Notes

  1. 7

Adjust simple syrup up to 0.5 oz if grapefruit is very tart, or omit if fruit is sweet. For a slightly smokier profile, use a reposado with more pronounced oak; for a brighter cocktail, use blanco tequila and reduce simple syrup slightly.
