Tea Base

Sweetener

Milk (optional)

Method

Prepare the Tea

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a medium saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a rolling boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Add Black Tea

Once the water is boiling, remove it from heat and add 4 teaspoons of black tea leaves. Let it steep for 5 minutes.

Infuse with Spices

  1. 3

    Add Spices

After the black tea has steeped for 5 minutes, add the cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, sliced ginger, black peppercorns, and cardamom pods to the saucepan.

  2. 4

    Simmer

Return the saucepan to low heat and let the tea and spices simmer together for an additional 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Sweeten and Serve

  1. 5

    Strain the Tea

After simmering, strain the tea through a fine mesh sieve into a teapot or another saucepan to remove the tea leaves and spices.

  2. 6

    Sweeten

Add 2 tablespoons of sugar or honey to the strained tea, stirring until fully dissolved.

  3. 7

    Add Milk (Optional)

If desired, add 1 cup of milk to the sweetened tea and stir well. Heat gently if you prefer a warm chai.

  4. 8

    Serve

Pour the house-made chai tea into cups and enjoy warm.
